Grape Planting
There is no better thing as relaxing and rewarding as grape planting. Imagine that you are gardening and you see the first ripe fruit, full bloomed, how proud you feel? Think of how it feels to see delicious cluster of grapes hang from your vineyard.
Grape planting is not difficult at all. The only thing required is the right information and guidance. Grape growers, especially people growing vines at home, often think that planting vines is a tough task. However that is not the case, on the contrary, grape planting is very easy. Most of the time is spent in deciding which variety to plant. The numbers are so huge and all varieties so delicious that figuring out which variety to plant becomes very difficult.
Before you choose an option and prepare an area for grape planting, there are a few things to remember.
The hole for grape planting:
While planting any plant, the cutting is first settled and then fertilizers are added. This process has traditionally been used in grape planting as well. However, today for better quality, the soil should first be fertilized with the right amount of fertilizers and then the grape cutting should be planted.
Fertilizers should be applied in such a way that the roots do not come into contact with the chemicals as it may damage their surface. If fertilizers are added before planting the cuttings, it gets mixed with the soil and as such the roots and chemicals do not come into direct contact. After the first application of minerals, You’ll need to add fertilizers a second time, to know when that time is that you need to add look to see when the length of the shoot is around 3 inches.
You should take care to ensure that the planting hole should be large enough so that it can hold the complete root. If you try to stuff the root into a small hole you will end up damaging the roots which in turn will damage and inhibit the healthy growth of the plant.
Preparation for new vines:
Thumb rule of grape planting: never allow the roots to dry out. This is very important. Ideally before planting you need to soak the vine in water for around 6 hours. However in case you are planning to plant vines in bulk then you need to ensure that the roots retain moisture which can be done by placing them in moist crocus bags.
Watering the vines:
As with any other plant, grape vines too need enough water to survive. However, knowing the correct amount is a problem. Too much water could kill the plant due to water clogging and too little could cause it to wilt. In case of grape vines the planting hole should be thoroughly watered besides to make sure that there is enough moisture content. Water should be added once every week for a month thereafter.
Cheers and good luck with your grape planting.
